Garb is what makes us look the part, our uniform if you will. Some units all have matching garb, some do not. As a beginner most people are after simple basic garb and happy to get it the cheapest way possible. People that have been in the game a while tend to look for higher quality or character-specific garb kits rather than just anything.
What To Avoid:
Overly "modern" looks
Finding Cheap Basic Garb:
Second hand stores! What to look for: - scrub pants (solid colors, pastels are okay) - peasant shirts - peasant dresses - peasant skirts - "gypsy" skirts (long, flowing skirts)
Walmart! What to look for: - peasant shirts - "gypsy" skirts (long, flowing skirts)
Screw it! I'm Wearing a TOGA! (you can do this if you want...)
Lets Talk "Real" Garb
Tunic: simple in style, reaching from the shoulders to a length somewhere between the hips and the ankles.
T-Tunic: a tunic that resembles the letter "T" when laid out on a flat surface
Tabard: a piece consisting only of front and back pieces with a hole for the head. Think sandwich-board.
Wrap Pants: A Single piece of fabric that wraps around the body like a skirt but forms pants. The ends lend to have slits in them that gives the wearer air-flow. These ends can be tied.
Harem Pants: Aladdin pants.
Kilt: Traditional celtic/scottish garment worn by men. It is not a skirt. We ask that it is worn the "un-traditional" way to events/battles (meaning there should be shorts or something underneath).
Circle Skirt: Traditional flowing skirt. Decent amount of fabric. Comes in many lengths.
Cloak: Stylish and useful. Can protect against the weather and cold.
Notes: Uses FB, great for custom orders! Vends for SCA too. There are plenty things available that are not listed with the basics on her etsy. She also teans up eith other smaller vendors to provide belts, kender belt pouches, beautiful armor & masks etc. Be sure to check out photos on her FB Page.
